Introduction
Frappe is a popular Greek iced coffee that’s known for its frothy top and refreshing taste, especially during the hot summer months. It’s typically made with instant coffee, water, sugar, and milk, shaken or blended to create a creamy foam. Frappe is a staple in Greek cafes and is enjoyed by people of all ages, making it an iconic drink in Greek culture.
Instructions
1. Prepare the Coffee Mixture:
-
- In a shaker or blender, add 2 teaspoons of instant coffee, sugar (if desired), and 1/4 cup of cold water.
- Shake or blend vigorously for about 10-15 seconds until a thick, frothy foam forms. If using a blender, blend on high speed.
2. Fill the Glass:
-
- Pour the coffee foam into a tall glass.
- Add 4-5 ice cubes to the glass.
- Slowly pour cold water or milk into the glass, depending on your preference, until it’s nearly full.
3. Mix and Serve:
-
- Stir the coffee gently to mix the foam with the liquid.
- Serve immediately with a straw for sipping.
Tips
- Blending vs. Shaking: While a shaker is traditional, using a blender can create a thicker foam. Choose based on your desired texture.
- Sugar: Adjust the amount of sugar to your liking. If you prefer it without sugar, skip this step.
- Milk: Adding milk gives the frappe a creamier texture. Experiment with the amount to suit your taste.
- Cold Water Quality: Use cold, fresh water for the best-tasting frappe.
- Ice: The more ice cubes you use, the colder and more refreshing your frappe will be.
